Independence Day 2017 Closings & Activities

Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States, marking the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

The following closings and activities have been reported:

The Cass County Government Building (courthouse) will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Cass County Commissioners will hold their regular meeting at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 3.

Logansport City offices, including LMU, will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.

Logansport trash pickup: Republic Services will pick up trash on Monday, July 3 as usual. Republic Service employees will observe the Independence Day Holiday on Tuesday with no trash pickup.  Trash pickup will fall one day behind for the rest of the week.

The Eel Township Trustee’s Office will be closed on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the 4th of July holiday. The office will be open for business as normal on Wednesday, July 5.

The July Logansport City Council meeting will be on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. on the third floor of the City Hall. (It’s usually held on the first Monday of the month).

The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety will not meet on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 due to the July 4th Holiday.  City business will be addressed on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 as usual.

All Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle (BMV) branches are closed Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.  Branches resume regularly scheduled business hours on Wednesday, July 5. Post offices will suspend retail and delivery operations on Tuesday, July 4 in observation of Independence Day.

The Walton Library will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS:

TWELVE MILE: A community church service will be held Sunday, July 2 at the Twelve Mile Fire Station at 10:30 a.m. On Monday, July 3, a Variety Show featuring Grace Scott begins at 8 p.m. in Plank Hill Park. There will be free food sponsored by Corinth Brethren Church, and fireworks at dusk on Monday, July 3. Donations from the public are welcome. On Tuesday, July 4, the parade begins at 11:30 a.m. Noon is the deadline for additional mower entries in the Twelve Mile 500. The National Anthem and raising of the flag will be at 12:45 p.m. and the 55th running of the Twelve Mile 500 begins at 1 p.m. wiht the Briggs/Race and Rookie Race (if needed). The Firecracker Foot Race is at 2 p.m. and the modified race will be at 2:30 p.m.

LOGANSPORT: The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department’s July 4 festivities will take place at Riverside Park. The One Warrior Foundation Military Appreciation Cookout for Veterans and their families will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the McHale Complex. (Military ID required).  Beginning at 2 p.m. there will be a variety of food booths, bounce houses, entertainment, carousel rides, miniature golf and a girls softball tournament throughout the day. Jason McKeever performs from 5-7 pm and Twisted Circus from 8-10 pm. Fireworks over the river will start at approximately 10 p.m.

WALTON: Walton Post 418 will hold the Walton Independence Day 5k. Kids run starts at 8 am, the 5K run starts at 8:15 and the 1 Mile Walk starts at 8:20.. Parade lineup is at 1 p.m. at Lewis Cass and the parade starts at 2 p.m. Registration for the Walton Fire Department Car Show begins at 3 p.m. and the show starts at 4 p.m. The Walton Fire Department Fish Fry begins at 4 p.m. Fireworks at dusk.
