July 10-11 Storm Updates

Wednesday, July 12:

Water has receded and many roads that were closed yesterday, including State Road 29, State Road 218 and SR 18 are now considered passable and high water signs have been removed. HOWEVER, Cass County EMA says there are some roads that suffered partial washouts, including an area on SR 29. If roads are marked closed, drivers should follow that and should not attempt to travel the road.

The official detour for SR 29 is SR 25 to Delphi and SR 18 to SR 29.

Walton Library Basement will be closed for at least 7 days, with tentative plans to reopen on July 18.

All Ivy Tech Community College classes at all Kokomo locations will be cancelled Wednesday, July 12 as crews continue cleanup efforts. Classes will resume on Thursday, July 13.

TUESDAY, JULY 11:

The American Red Cross has a shelter/service center open at Fairview Elementary School at 846 S. Cicott in Logansport. It can be used for a charging station, cooling center and they will soon have cleanup kits. This is to help with flooding and storm damage.

Cass and Howard Counties are under a yellow travel advisory. Drivers should use caution – do not drive around “Road Closed” signs and do not drive through standing or flowing water on roadways. Motorists should be aware of their location should they become stranded If you need immediate assistance call 911. Check Indiana’s county travel status map here.

As of 7:30 a.m. US 35 between Walton and Logansport has reopened.

US 29 is closed at the Cass County line to SR 218 and south of SR 218.

SR 218 is closed between SR 29 and US 35 in multiple locations.

SR 18 is closed between SR 29 and US 35 in multiple locations.

The Hoosier Heartland in Carroll County was closed last night and as of 7:30 a.m. there have been no additional updates.

There is also flooding reported at 400 W and France Park.

Cass County EMA says “many county roads are impassable.” As of shortly before 1 a.m. , an estimated 4.9 to 6.5 inches of rain had fallen in southern part of Cass County, which includes Walton & Galveston.

Update: Due to flooding, ALL Ivy Tech classes in Kokomo are cancelled today, Tuesday, July 11. Only executive leadership should report to campus.

A flood warning remains in effect until 10:15 a.m. for Cass County and southwestern Miami County. Find more info here.

More rain is expected tonight. The National Weather Service says thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. Widespread severe weather is not expected but a few isolated strong storms are possible with gusty winds and brief heavy rain.

Additional storms are possible Wednesday night into Thursday. National Weather Service says severe weather may be possible.

There were reports of several confirmed tornadoes in Cass County early Monday evening and flash flooding caused evacuations on Logansport’s south side, in the Anthony and Shultz St. areas. Fairview Elementary was opened as an emergency evacuation center.
