Registration for 2017 “Light Up Logansport” parade begins

Last year, a Logansport fan favorite for the Christmas season re-emerged.

Now, organizers are planning bigger and better for the second Light Up Logansport Parade on Nov. 24, 2017.

Registration is now open on the Light Up Logansport Facebook page. Entries will be accepted for the first 65 units to apply. The parade will step off at 7 p.m. on the Friday following Thanksgiving.

Entrants who aren’t on Facebook can contact the Mayor’s Office by phone or e-mail. You can also find the entry form at https://goo.gl/forms/aPUIhtVB9DQupAOQ2

The parade will again include presentations to the Logansport Police Officer of the Year and the Logansport Firefighter of the Year. Several awards for entries also will be presented. Marching bands, local nonprofit organizations, churches and businesses and industries are welcome to apply. Entrants do not have to be from the City of Logansport or Cass County.

“We’re glad to have the response to the parade we did last year,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said. “The turnout was estimated at 6,000 people, and given the number of families that are gathered for Thanksgiving, it was probably accurate.”

The mayor said Pioneer’s impending appearance in the state Class A football championship game last year may have held down the size of the crowd, but not the spirit.

Churches and individuals along the parade route are invited to display luminaria.

“We’re grateful to the many school groups, organizations and private businesses participating last year, and for the work the Salvation Army did in providing hot beverages for many attending the parade,” the mayor said. “This is a great way to kick off the Christmas season for children of all ages.”
