KOKOMO, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo will host its biennial Celebration for Student Success from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15 at Bel Air Events, 3014 S. Webster St. This year’s event will feature live entertainment, dinner, and activities to raise funds for student scholarships at the Kokomo Campus.
With the theme of “Peace. Love. Ivy Tech.,” guests are invited to break out their bellbottoms, miniskirts, platform shoes, peace signs and paisley for a “hip trip through the ’60s,” all to support Ivy Tech students in the Kokomo community.
The Jhonny and Sallie Show, an award-winning, crowd-favorite duo from northern Indiana, will provide live entertainment with well-remembered tunes from the hippie days of the 1960s. The night will also include a raffle with prizes from local businesses and individuals who support students, a live auction, and a full cash bar. The plated dinner will be topped by a favorite ’60s dessert: rainbow sherbet.
“The Celebration for Student Success events give participants many opportunities throughout the evening to make a difference in the life of an Ivy Tech student through financial support,” said Kelly Karickhoff, executive director of Resource Development for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Region. “We hope our students will feel the ‘peace and love’ from their community as we join together to raise funds that will be distributed in tuition, fees and book assistance. With groovy live music we’ll have a fun and festive evening that everyone can enjoy.”
Tickets for Celebration for Student Success are $40 each and may be purchased at www.ivytech.edu/kokomo/celebration.html or by calling Miriam Thomas of the Ivy Tech Foundation staff at 765-252-5500. Reservations must be made by Sept. 8.
“Our goal is to raise $60,000 that will be distributed to students on Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Campus over the next two academic years,” Karickhoff continued. “More than $35,000 has already been raised in scholarships and sponsorships. Please join in helping us eliminate the financial barriers to the higher education that will prepare these students to enter the workforce or transfer on to a four-year college or university.”
