Charles Edwin “Ed” Smith, age 79, Logansport, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017, in Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born August 19, 1938, in Logansport, he was the son of Robert and Frances Sauers Smith.

On September 19, 1976, he married Jane Koons, who survives, in Logansport.

Ed was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.

He was retired from Essroc after more than 20 years of employment, and was a member of the Burnettsville Baptist Church.

Ed loved to cook and was known for his pies. He was a wonderful father and husband, and could be depended upon to assist with nearly anything. He loved when his grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters, Vicky Hathaway and Pam (Wayne) Welton, all of Logansport; step-son, Kye Benn, Peru; brother, Frank (Barbara) Smith, Lake Cicott; grandchildren, Jack Hathaway, Carrie (Shea) Kelley, Joshua (Monique) Suiter, Shawn (Arin) Shaver, Kiley (Ed) Nason, and Ashley (Curtis) Wilson; and ten great grandchildren.

Son-in-law, Scott Hathaway, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Paul Scott officiating.

Interment will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park with a full military service.
