St. Vincent compromise recommended

Last Updated on September 4, 2017 by cassnetwork

Concerns over stained-glass windows in the former St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church may finally be resolved.

Todd Zeiger of Indiana Landmarks, the state’s leading historic preservation organization, has issued a recommendation sought by the Logansport Historic Preservation Commission.

Zeiger’s recommendation is for the commission to allow All Saints Catholic Church to have possession of the windows. The recommendation, however, calls for All Saints to mitigate the loss of the windows in the structure, which was built in 1860. The 1984 inventory of Cass County historic structures indicates its Gothic Revival architecture qualifies as an outstanding example of architecture.

All Saints, which donated the structure to the Emmaus Mission Center several years ago, has requested the windows for a permanent display in its parish hall at Second and East Market.

Earlier this summer, the commission voted to support the recommendation of Indiana Landmarks. Local preservationist Paul Willham had asked the commission to require the windows to remain at St. Vincent de Paul.
