A south side woman who has been actively involved with Habitat for Humanity has been honored by Mayor Dave Kitchell.

Anne Jeffers has been involved with the local affiliate for many years. The faith-based organization provides new and rehabilitated homes for residents willing to contribute sweat equity and volunteer hours into improving the community’s housing stock.

“The work Anne and many other local volunteers have done is to be commended because Habitat has reached out to many individuals and families who simply want decent housing in our community,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said. “Many people talk about the need for this kind of housing, but Anne and Habitat volunteers put their faith into action and truly raise the bar for neighborhoods, our property values and our entire community. We’re a stronger community because Habitat invests in our older neighborhoods and brings new investment to them.”

The city recently donated a home on Tacoma Avenue for use as a single-family home.

Jeffers will receive a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant and a certificate of appreciation from the city.
