Logansport mayor attends entrepreneurship conference

Logansport was among cities represented at the Mayors Conference on Entrepreneurship last week in Oakland, Calif.

The conference was hosted by the Kauffman Foundation, a nonprofit foundation based in Kansas City, Mo. Fifty-four mayors from 16 states were invited to attend, with all costs for the event borne by the foundation. Mayors had opportunities to visit maker spaces and repurposed office space in Oakland where entrepreneurs and start-up businesses have thrived.

Mayor Dave Kitchell and Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood were the only participating mayors from Indiana. They were involved in sessions on various local government issues and discussions affecting opportunities for entrepreneurship at the local level.

“This was a fantastic opportunity to meet and share ideas with some of the best mayors in the country,” Kitchell said.

The foundation was created by the late Ewing Kauffman, a pharmaceutical industrialist and former owner of the Kansas City Royals baseball team.
