A Logansport man who has served his community as a volunteer for nearly 40 years is the latest recipient of a city honor.

Ed Wilkinson has been named the Logansport Citizen of the Week by Mayor Dave Kitchell. Wilkinson graduated from Logansport High School in 1974 and went on to Purdue University. After his graduation, he returned to Logansport to work for his family’s firm, Wilkinson Plumbing & Heating. It was recognized last week for its 70th year in business. It was started by Ed’s grandfather, Lloyd.

“Ed has remained loyal to his community, to his family and to the volunteer organizations he has been involved with since he returned to Logansport in the late 1970s,” Kitchell said. “He has spent his entire career working in a family business and supporting community causes.”

Wilkinson was president of the Logansport Jaycees in the mid-1990s when the organization raised $10,000 for the all-weather home of the Dentzel carousel. In the early 1970s, the Jaycees took the lead in raising funds so that the carousel would remain in Logansport. Wilkinson has been active in the Shrine Club and the Roosters, a Jaycee organization, for several years. He continues to play trumpet with a local band.

He and his wife, Tammy, have been married for 39 years.

Wilkinson will receive a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant and a certificate of appreciation from the city.
