KOKOMO, Ind. – Dakota Prilaman, a student in the Paramedic Science program at Ivy Tech Community College, has been awarded the Cass County Democratic Party Scholarship for 2017-18.

Prilaman met recently with Paul Ulerick, chairman of the Cass County Democratic Party to extend her thanks for their support of her continuing education. Also in the meeting were Connie Morgan, dean of the School of Health Sciences for Ivy Tech Kokomo, and Mark Fair, program chair for Paramedic Science.

Prilaman, a graduate of Lewis Cass High School, is working to expand her skills as an emergency medical technician (EMT) to become a paramedic.

In 2014, the Cass County Democratic Party presented Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Region with a $10,000 gift earmarked for an endowed scholarship in honor of the late Jim Weaver, a long-time leader in Logansport/Cass County education, government and economic development. Cass County residents who are attending any Ivy Tech campus in the Kokomo Region, have a minimum grade-point average of 2.5 and who are registered voters will be eligible to apply for the $500 scholarship, which may be used for tuition, fees and books.

“Jim Weaver was committed to the betterment of our society and exhibited the highest values of the Democratic Party,” said Paul Ulerick, chair of the Cass County Democratic Party. “We are truly excited to establish this endowed scholarship.  It demonstrates the strong belief by the Democratic Party that it is important to continue your education.”
