Ethel Heltzel Miller, 103, of Logansport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25, 2017, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born October 31, 1914, in Miami County, Ethel was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lillian (Dawson) Heltzel.
On January 16,1946. she was married to Charles W. Miller who preceded her in death Dec. 12, 2000.
Ethel was a graduate of Gilead High School and Manchester College. She taught first and second grades in the Miami, Fulton and Cass Counties for 37 years. She retired in 1975 from Jefferson Elementary School in Logansport. She loved working with children. Professionally, she was a member of the Cass County Retired Teachers Association as along with the Indiana and National Retired Teacher Associations. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International -an organization made up of key women educators.
Ethel was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in the New Life Guild. She was also a member of the Royal Center Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star No. 375 and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. Ethel had also served as a 4-H leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved playing cards and was active in two card clubs. Ethel was a “die hard Cubs fan” as well as an Indiana Pacers fan.
Surviving are her son, Stephen Miller (Cathy Appleton Walters), of Logansport; two grandchildren, Kayla Miller and Carson Miller, both of Royal Center; one sister-in-law, Jeannette Heltzel, of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers: William, Marvin, Arthur, Robert, Lester, Gordon and Earl; one sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Frank Sisulak; sisters-in-law, Verna Heltzel and Marjorie (Marlen) Personett.
A funeral service celebrating Ethel’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Beth Ann Cook officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery, near Burnettsville.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 in the funeral chapel where an Eastern Star service will be held at 6:45 p.m.
