Rovena G. Ayers

Rovena G. Ayers, age 78, Walton, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017, in Kindred Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born Friday, June 23, 1939, in Campbellsburg, Washington County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Joseph and Pearl Browning Lucas.

On June 14, 1959, in Campbellsburg, she was married to John “Jack” Ayers, who preceded her in death on October 18, 2017, just two and a half weeks ago.

Rovena retired in 2002, as an elementary teacher in the Southeastern School Corporation.

She was a 1957 graduate of Campbellsburg High School, a 1961 graduate of Indiana State University and earned a master’s degree from Ball State University in 1968.

Among her many activities were memberships in Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, where she had been president and secretary, and the Retired Teachers Association. She served as president of the Walton Main Street Association and secretary of the Walton Library Board. For ten years she was a Four-H Association leader.

Rovena was a member of the Walton United Methodist Church, where she was pianist.

Rovena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by sons Michael S. (Terri) of Logansport, Brian P. (Lisa) of Walton, and Kelly K. (Kelly) of Logansport; daughter Janalee S. (Bill) Kovacs of Whiteland; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several foster grandchildren and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Penny S. Lucas and infant Mary Jo Lucas.

Services for Rovena Ayers will be held at Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport. Friends and family may gather to celebrate Rovena’s life on Tuesday, November 7, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Carolyn DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Walton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
