Victim advocate named Citizen of the Week

Last Updated on November 13, 2017 by cassnetwork

A Logansport woman who pioneered a position in Cass County government is recognized this week with a special city honor.

Mary Fox served as the victim advocate for the county court system. She recently retired from the position after 18 years. Mayor Dave Kitchell named her Citizen of the Week for her efforts to make victims of crime whole after a crime is committed.

“Mary has been an unsung hero for those who were defenseless, hurt or in some way harmed financially or personally by the actions of those who break laws,” the mayor said today. “Not all communities have victim advocates, but many should because the position goes beyond the arrest and jail phase of the judicial process and balances the scales of justice for those who involuntarily drawn into the judicial process.”

The Citizen of the Week recognizes Logansport natives or residents who contribute to the community or are recognized for their achievements. Recipients received a certificate of appreciation from the city and a $20 gift certificate.
