KOKOMO, Ind. – You’re getting ready for a major remodel and the garage and the attic and the basement are full of, well, extra stuff. What to do? Perhaps an auction?
That’s where Ivy Tech Community College’s Kokomo campus finds itself … getting ready for a $43 million capital project designed to completely transform the College’s physical presence in Kokomo … with a lot of surplus, used, outdated furniture, equipment and “miscellaneous items” that are no longer needed but that just might suit someone else. So an auction it is.
The auction is set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Ivy Tech building at 1901 E. Morgan St. in Kokomo.
Along with two firetrucks and two ambulances, a wooden trebuchet will go on the auction block. The trebuchet, defined as “a type of siege engine which uses a swinging arm to throw a projectile at the enemy,” was used for the popular “Punkin Chunkin” in years past during Ivy Tech’s Techknowfest event.
Also in the auction are a variety of wood shop tools, two mowers, an industrial metal lathe and industrial drill press, and a reception counter and window. For the more mundane, hundreds of various sizes of folding tables, hundreds of chairs and desks, file cabinets, metal shelving, and overhead lighting fixtures will be offered for sale.
Plans are being finalized for Ivy Tech’s complete redesign of the Kokomo campus. Faculty and staff will soon start moving to temporary locations so work can begin in May on the first phase of the project, the renovation of the north hall of the Main Building. The entire transformation is expected to be completed in early 2020.
