Last Updated on December 5, 2017 by cassnetwork

An independent ranking of communities based on crime statistics has placed Logansport among the best places to live.

The rankings, which are interpreted from FBI statistics on violent crimes per capita, are sponsored by Elite Personal Finance. (Check out the full rankings here.)

Logansport ranks as the 25th safest city in Indiana overall, but the 10th safest city in the group with populations between 10,000 and 30,000.St. John, Crown Point, Dyer, Munster and Bluffton are the top cities in that population range.

“This is a good barometer for us and for others evaluating Logansport, particularly in the economic development sector, who are judging us from afar,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “Several other services use indicators like this to rank the city and our quality of life. I think this is evidence that our investments in public safety have paid off over time.”

The city of Logansport uses the six cities closest to Logansport in population as peer cities in comparisons. Of those cities, Vincennes, was eighth, Frankfort was 12th while Seymour was 25th and Shelbyville came in 33rd. Neighboring Peru ranked 17th and Warsaw was 30th.

Overall, New Whiteland, with fewer than 6,000 residents, ranked first. It had no violent crimes during the year. Among cities with more than 30,000 in population, West Lafayette was fifth, Lafayette was 17th and Kokomo was 22nd. Fishers ranked No. 1 in the class.

The city was ranked 10th safest overall in Indiana last year by backgroundchecks.org.
