Logansport Redevelopment Commission members reappointed for 2018

Three people who have served on the board that distributes Tax Increment Financing the past two years will serve again in 2018.

Mayor Dave Kitchell announced Monday night that Suzanne Chilcott, Brannon Meagher and Scott Kraud will serve again. Kraud, a former city council member who currently serves on the Logansport School Board, also has served as president of the board the past two years. Kraud is employed with Cass County Title.

Chilcott is a retired banker who also has served on the Logansport Planning Commission. Meagher previously served on the council and represented the 1st Ward. He is employed with ABC Metals.

Although Indiana state law requires redevelopment commissions to have a non-voting member from a school board, the mayor has appointed Kraud as a voting member. Matt Lewellen, who serves on the Southeastern School Board, is the non-voting member. The Cass/Logan Industrial Park TIF District is located in the Southeastern district.

The mayor said among the appointees’ work the past two years has been the Logan Square renovation project that will bring 40 market rate apartments downtown, the LED lighting improvements for the boulevard and a new individual application program. The commission also has supported efforts to improve the infrastructure surrounding the Logansport/Cass County Memorial Center.

Commission members have voted to waive 50 percent of the TIF collections in all designated districts except the downtown district the past two years. The move has increased the assessed valuation of the city and served to restrain property tax increases.
