Cass County Councilman Mike Stajduhar announced today that he will seek to retain his seat on County Council. Stajduhar was appointed this year to fill a vacancy and will run for election to a full four-year term in 2018 on the Republican ticket.

Stajduhar serves as the Chairman of the Cass County Republican Central Committee and until recently was on the Board of the Logansport Housing Authority. Previously he served on the Charleston, West Virginia City Council and as Chairman of the Kanawha County, West Virginia Republican Executive Committee.

A graduate of Duke University Law School, Stajduhar began his career as a tax attorney and then spent 35 years as a trust officer and financial planner with BB&T, a large regional bank, before retiring to Logansport.

“My passion has always been to assure the financial stability of organizations with which I have been associated,” Stajduhar said. “Cass County must continue building its financial reserves so that it is prepared to meet any emergency needs that may arise. This should be done by limiting spending to essential items and saying no to those deemed non-essential. Cass County already taxes its residents at rates above that of most other counties so raising taxes is not the answer.”

“I am certainly in favor of spending for public safety, infrastructure, and public health,” Stajduhar said, noting that expansion of the County Jail will need to be addressed.

Stajduhar has served on Cass County Council since August of this year. “During the short time I have served on Council I have come to appreciate the many services the County provides its residents and the hard work of its employees, including my fellow councilman. I look forward to working with them in the years ahead.” Stajduhar represents District III, which contains the east side of Logansport and adjoining areas in Eel Township.

In addition to his political activities, Stajduhar serves on the board of the Cass County Historical Society, for which he is Treasurer. He is also the Cass County Historian.

Stajduhar and his wife, the former Sarah Jane Wilkinson, live in Logansport. He is a member of All Saints Parish and she attends Trinity Episcopal Church.
