Members of the Cass County Drug Task Force received information Saturday, Jan. 20 from the investigations and intelligence division at the Miami County Correctional Facility involving alleged drug trafficking by a correction officer who resides in Logansport. A subsequent investigation conducted January 22 by the Cass County Drug Task Force resulted in a traffic stop on Highway 218 near Cass County Road 1000 E around 4:10 p.m.

According to a news release, the driver of the vehicle, correction officer Heaven Fair, 21, of Logansport, cooperated with law enforcement and allowed a search of her person, vehicle and residence. The release states that she “admitted to concealing illegal narcotics on her person at the time of the traffic stop and also possessing illegal narcotics at her residence in Logansport.”

The release states that members of the Cass County Drug Task Force recovered approximately 164 suboxone strips concealed on Fair and recovered approximately 29 grams of probable crystal methamphetamine from an apartment in the 100 block of East Ottawa. The release continues that members of the task force also recovered manufactured packaging for suboxone from a trash can in the residence. The manufactured packaging was removed “allowing the suboxone strips to be repackaged smaller and concealed for trafficking.” Police say there were also handwritten letters recovered from the residence, from incarcerated offenders, providing detailed instructions on how to traffic illegal narcotics.

The Cass County Drug Task Force was assisted by the Miami County Correctional Facility’s investigation and intelligence division. Members of the Task Force were advised that the total value of illegal narcotics is approximately $25,400 in prison.

Fair was incarcertated in the Cass County Jail on charges of dealing methamphetamine (L2 felony), possession of methamphetamine (L3 felony) maintaining a common nuisance (L6 felony), dealing in a schedule III substance (L6 felony) and possession of a schedule III substance (A-misdemeanor).

Logansport Police say this is an ongoing investigation for the investigation and intelligence division at the Miami County Correctional Facility and it is anticipated that there will be further charges made resulting from the investigation.
