RES holds Harvest Wind project information session

The company that’s proposing to develop a wind farm in Cass and Miami Counties provided information about the Harvest Wind project during a dinner Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Angie’s Catering attended by more than 100 people.

Officials with Renewable Energy Systems, or RES, said landowners who’ve signed lease agreements were invited and encouraged to bring a friend to learn more about the project.

Several elected officials including all three Cass County Commissioners, Logansport’s mayor and a couple of members of the Cass County Council also attended.

Brad Lila, development director for RES, outlined project assumptions that included a 600 MW wind project with 143 wind turbines that could be as tall as 670 feet.

The company projects estimated payments to landowners over 25 years would total more than $109 million.

According to the company, a project of that scope would increase the tax base in Miami County by $279 million while the projected increase to Cass County’s tax base would be $621 million.

RES has been working on the project since October 2016 and says they’re currently negotiating economic development, decommissioning and road use agreements.

Construction on the Harvest Wind project could begin as early as October of this year with completion by mid 2020.

RES has started a Facebook page called IN for Wind where they plan to share information about the project.

Opponents of the project started a Cass County Property Rights page late last year.

Lila said the company plans to hold more public information sessions in the future.
