‘Citizen of the Week’ goes to Eagle Scout

A member of Boy Scout Troop 200 is recognized this week as the Logansport Citizen of the Week by Mayor Dave Kitchell.

Wesley Joe Grandstaff received his Eagle Scout Award at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crosswind United Methodist Church. The mayor, who spoke to scouts at the church recently, said the most coveted award for Boy Scouts is something special for every scout that earns it.

“Wesley is continuing a proud tradition of scouts, scout leaders and parents in our community who value what it means to be an Eagle Scout,” Kitchell said. “Some of the most successful leaders we’ve ever had in our nation were Eagle Scouts, and the program represents more than a badge earned; it represents a young man committed to a lofty goal of becoming the best scout he can be.”

The mayor said parents, grandparents and sometimes siblings become valuable supporters of Eagle Scout candidates who are often involved in community service projects that have a last impact for years.

The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport natives or residents who contribute to the community or are recognized for their achievements. Recipients received a certificate of appreciation from the city and a $20 gift certificate.
