At Monday’s meeting, the Logansport School Board approved the hiring of a new facility manager for McHale Performing Arts Center.

John Vales will succeed Ken Fraza, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Vales is a 2016 graduate of Elmhurst College who holds an associates degree in business and a BA in theatre design and technology. He said that while in college, he worked as assistant technical director for two years and then manager of the auditorium at his high school, Glenbard East, near Chicago.

Vales is currently working as a technician with Grand Stage Lighting in Chicago.

Fraza is wrapping up a 42 year career as the only facility manager and lighting designer in McHale’s history. It opened in 1976, the same year he was hired.

Vales said his first day will be April 2. Fraza and Vales will work together until Vales becomes the facility’s new manager on July 1.

Vales said he’s looking forward to the opportunity, especially to working with students, and described McHale Performing Arts Center as an amazing facility.
