Schieber selected ‘Citizen of the Week’

A long-time Logansport resident who pioneered the city’s earliest era of redevelopment using Tax Increment Financing is being honored this week for his contributions.

Allen Schieber, a retired banker, was the first president of the Logansport Redevelopment Commission and held the post for more than a decade. He has been named this week’s Logansport Citizen of the Week.

Although he was responsible for many local projects funded with TIF dollars as well as the designation of certain districts in the city, he was never paid a dime by the city for his efforts.

“In Allen, Logansport was gifted with a community-minded citizen who took it upon himself to learn and execute an entirely new program for the city which gave us an advantage we will be able to leverage for many projects in years to come,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said. “Had it not been for him, many of the things the city has been able to accomplish may not have happened as quickly, if at all.”

Allen’s wife, Peggy, was employed in the local economic development office for many years. The couple has two grown daughters, Amy and Melissa.

The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport natives or residents who contribute to the community or are recognized for their achievements. Recipients received a certificate of appreciation from the city and a $20 gift certificate.
