It’s Historic Preservation Week nationwide, and as local fans of historic preservation observe it with special tours and a presentation Saturday at The People’s Winery, there are reasons to celebrate it throughout the year.

According to the 2016 inventory of historic buildings in Logansport, there were 73 structures rated as “outstanding” nominees or virtual “slam dunks” for the National Register of HIstoric Places in 1984 when the first inventory was completed. By 2016, a dozen of those had vanished from the Logansport landscape and another 18 have been reduced to “notable” or “contributing” status, though those structures may also be nominated for the Register.
