Here are five things you might want to know for Monday, June 4, and five upcoming events:

FREE MEALS FOR KIDS

Beginning today and continuing through July, two area churches will be offering free sack lunches to students Monday through Thursday. From 11 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays, Cross-Wind UMC will offer lunches to students at Huston Park. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Vineyard Community Church will offer free sack lunches from 11 a.m. to noon at Franklin Elementary School.
Children must be present to receive a lunch.

Logansport Community Schools will also be offering free breakfast and lunch for those 18 and under, starting today. Breakfast will be served on weekdays at Logansport HS from 7:40 to 8 a.m. and at Columbia Elementary from 9 to 9:30. Lunch will be served on weekdays from 11:30 to 12:15 at Columbia Elementary and from 11:30 to noon at Logansport HS.

CELEBRATE LOGANSPORT SET FOR JUNE 7

Logan’s Landing will host the annual “Celebrate Logansport” event on Thursday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market Lot at the corner of 4th and Market in downtown Logansport. The event will feature music, kids activities and free birthday cake while supplies last. Logan’s Landing will sell servings of strawberry shortcake for $5. AGRIVISION NOMINATIONS ACCEPTED THRU JULY 1

Nominations are being accepted through July 1 for the the 2018 AgriVision Award, which was established to honor an Indiana resident who has made significant advancements in the agriculture industry. The award will be presented by the Lt. Gov. Crouch during the Celebration of Agriculture at the Indiana State Fair, which will be taking place on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., ET, in the Normandy Barn. DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT WEEK SCHEDULED

In October, the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs will host an inaugural week-long celebration called Downtown Development Week.

This week will be an opportunity for communities across the state to host events to celebrate their communities. Downtown Development Week, which will run from Oct. 8 – 12, 2018, will honor Indiana’s cities and towns’ commitment to preserve and invest in the heart of the community, the downtown.

There’s also a photo contest where communities can encourage the Lt. Governor to visit their community during Downtown Development Week. Find more info here.

TWO MEETINGS TODAY

The Cass County Commissioners will meet today at 1 p.m. and the Logansport City Council will meet at 6:30. The June meeting of the Cass County Plan Commission has been canceled.
