Geisler’s encore: Citizen of the Week

One of the major events of the Indiana State Fair is the annual band competition, and this year’s event had a Logansport flavor.

Richard Geisler, a Logansport native, was the director of the Anderson High School Marching Band which finished second in the contest. While Geisler’s band did not win the largest trophy at the contest, he is recognized this week as Logansport’s Citizen of the Week.

Geisler, a 2002 Logansport High School graduate, went on to receive his music education degree from Ball State University.

“Since taking over at Anderson, Richard has consistently placed the marching band in the top five of the highly competitive state fair competition,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said Monday. “It’s a testament to him that he continually strives to improve and is able to continue the great marching band tradition associated with the North Central Conference and Logansport.”

One of Richard’s grandparents was the late Hollis Johnston who promoted sacred and secular music for much of his life in the community.

The Citizen of the Week is a city program honoring Logansport natives or former residents who have made contributions to the city. In addition to a certificate, recipients receive a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant.
