Here are five things you might want to know for Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018:

CONSTRUCTION ON 600E

The 18th Street Bridge re-opened on Wednesday, and now, work is being done on Cass County Road 600 E. You can see photos from the ribbon cutting and a video on our Facebook page.

Cass County Road 600E will be closed between US 24 and County Road 250S on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018 between approximately 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for ditch work. Drivers will be directed on a one square mile detour along 250S, 500E, and US 24.

Cass County Road 600E will be closed at US 35 for railroad crossing rehabilitation starting after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4. The closure is expected to last until Friday, September 7. A short detour is available via 500S and US 35.

SPLASH PAD CLOSING FOR SEASON

The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department has announced that the Splash Pad at Muehlhausen Park will close for the season on Sept. 3, 2018.

DAYCARE/PRESCHOOL AWARDED GRANT

Little Children’s Ministry, located at First United Methodist Church, 800 East Broadway, welcomed a $26,000 Registered Ministry Capital and Quality Improvement Grant from Early Learning Indiana to create new early learning opportunities for area families. Specifically, the grant will be used for adding a new restroom and to renovate existing restrooms to make them more accessible to children. Read more here.

CITIZEN OF THE WEEK NAMED

Few Logansport High School athletes can lay claim to being a member of two Logansport state championship teams. Eric Kinnaman, a 1979 graduate who played on both the 1977 and 1979 state championship teams, is recognized for that rarity as this week’s Citizen of the Week.  Read more here.

FACADE FUNDS AVAILABLE DOWNTOWN

Applications for the Commercial Facade Improvement Funding Program are available to commercial business or property owners within the Logan’s Landing district. The program offers 50% matching funding of up to $5,000 per property for eligible improvements. Activities eligible for funding include awnings, exterior painting, exterior lighting, windows and doors, façade maintenance/restoration, and installation of a new brick façade. Read more here.
