Fundraising efforts for fire victims continue

Last Updated on September 12, 2018 by cassnetwork

A local businessman and his family have set up a trust at PNC Bank in Logansport to assist the victims of Sunday’s house fire on Montgomery Street.

Ed Nason, owner of Ed Nason Insurance Group, says he feels it is his duty to step up. He sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 65% of his body at the age of 2, and was a patient at Riley Children’s Hospital, where he and his wife now have a foundation.

“Personally being a burn survivor myself, I know the importance of a support system,” he says.

Nason says he will be reaching out to other businesses who might like to contribute. He says anyone who would like to contribute to the Marlem Sosa Trust can do so at any PNC Bank branch in Logansport, Peru or Kokomo. Nason says the trust has a tax ID number and is also registered with the State of Indiana.

Marlem Sosa and her infant son were hospitalized after she jumped from the second story of their home to escape the fire early Sunday morning. Two children, Cataleya Arellano, 5, and Jason Whitelow, Jr.,1, did not survive.

The family has opened an account (Benefit of Marlem Sosa & Nayvien) at Beacon Credit Union and a Go Fund Me account has also been set up.

The City of Logansport announced today that Tyson Foods employees will be collecting donations Friday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 15 during a special charitable roadblock at the intersection of 6th Street and East Broadway, in front of the Logansport City Building.
