Racop named Citizen of the Week

A Logansport native who won the David Letterman Scholarship at Ball State and went on to produce movies and manufacture Batmobiles is this week’s recipient of a special city honor.

Mark Racop, a 1983 Logansport High School graduate, has been proclaimed Citizen of the Week by Mayor Dave Kitchell. Racop is a key component of this week’s “Fiberglass Freaks” event at the Logansport/Cass County Airport. It will not only feature replicas of the Batmobile, which are made in Logansport, but the Batcopter used in the “Batman” television series and a replica of the Batboat.

“Mark’s creativity can be featured in our community, and it has led to a career for him in Logansport,” Kitchell said Friday. “Those who assume you can’t follow your dreams or your passion and have a career have not been familiar with his life story so far, and it is a good reminder that you can really be anything you want in a land of opportunity.”

Fiberglass Freaks BatCon is open to the public and will be held Saturday and Sunday at the airport.

The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport natives or residents who contribute to the community or are recognized for their achievements. Recipients receive a certificate of appreciation from the city and a $20 gift certificate.
