Child dies after accidental shooting on north side
At 11:46 a.m. on Oct. 25, Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a 3-year-old child shot in the 1500 block of Treen Street in Logansport.
Logansport Police say the child sustained a gunshot wound to the face area and was taken to Logansport Memorial Hospital and immediately transported by helicopter to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis. Police say the child died at Riley Hospital at 3:31 p.m.
The case is still under investigation but police said in a news release that at this point, it appears that it was an accidental self-inflicted wound. According to the release, neither the child nor the adult female caregiver resides at the residence, and the caregiver was unaware of the weapon’s location.
Assisting the Logansport Police Department was the crime scene technician from the Indiana State Police, Logansport Fire Department and Prompt Ambulance Service.
