Citizens urged to wear red this week

Nationwide, the focus on drug abuse prevention is in full view through the end of the month as part of Red Ribbon Week.

Mayor Dave Kitchell is asking local residents to wear red or red ribbons to show their support for efforts to prevent drug abuse.

“This continues to be a critical factor affecting our community and all  others because of the lives lost, the time lost in jobs, the health care costs, the legal costs and the shattered dreams of young people who are the most vulnerable to drug abuse,” Kitchell said.

Logansport students participated in a Red Ribbon Week poster contest. The winning entries will again be displayed in the City Building.

Saturday, a special drug prevention breakfast will be held for students at McHale Community Complex.

The national Red Ribbon campaign is reminding adults to communicate with children about drugs and to remember to lock their own medications, take inventory of all medications and properly dispose of unused or expired medicines.
