Ivy Tech Kokomo sets Next Level Jobs event for Oct. 18

KOKOMO Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo’s Next Level Jobs event set for Oct. 18 will be an opportunity to learn about educational options available for adults interested in updating their skills, returning to the workforce, or moving up in their current jobs. The event is set for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ivy Tech Kokomo Campus at 1815 E. Morgan St.

“At our Next Level Jobs event, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about this state initiative and how it can lead you to a high-demand, high-wage career,” said Marcia Worland, vice chancellor for Enrollment Services. “Next Level Jobs, funded by the Workforce Ready Grant from the State of Indiana, provides an opportunity for qualifying Hoosiers to earn a high-value certificate at Ivy Tech Community College – free of cost to the student.”

Participants also will learn about the opportunities through the Workforce Ready Grant for qualified students to earn a tuition-free certificate or technical certificate in one of the many high-demand jobs areas identified by the state.

Anyone who wants to get ready to take advantage of the opportunities being offered can begin by filling out the free admissions application found at www.ivytech.edu/apply-now/index.html . At the Next Level Jobs event, participants will have the opportunity to enroll in an NLJ program for spring 2019 and learn how they can earn college credit for what they already know.

“The Workforce Ready Grant is for Hoosiers who are ready to move their career and future to the next level,” Worland said. “It offers the opportunity to ‘skill-up’ and fill thousands of jobs open now and in the future – jobs that will keep Indiana, and you and your family, economically healthy.”

The Workforce Ready Grant is designed to remove barriers – financial and time – that may prevent Hoosiers from getting the training they need for a job in one of the five fields identified as high-demand in Indiana: Advanced Manufacturing, Health & Life Sciences, IT & Business Services, Transportation & Logistics, and Building & Construction.

“If finances have been the barrier to you enrolling at Ivy Tech — perhaps your household income would typically be too high to qualify for other sources of financial aid — you may qualify for this grant because eligibility is not based on household income,” Worland said. “If the time commitment has been preventing you from enrolling, the programs that qualify for this funding are all short-term, requiring from four to 13 courses to complete, depending on the path you choose.”

Basic requirements to qualify for the Workforce Ready grand include: being at least 18 years old, being an Indiana resident and a U.S. citizen (or eligible resident), and having a high school diploma (or equivalent) but less than a college degree.

Ivy Tech staff members in admissions and financial aid will be on hand to talk about the programs Ivy Tech offers and the options of face-to-face, online and hybrid courses and how to apply and enroll.
