Volunteers invited to help install smoke detectors

Last Updated on December 14, 2018 by cassnetwork

A smoke detector installation blitz is planned this Saturday in Cass County.

The effort is being coordinated through the American Red Cross, the Logansport Mayor’s Office and area fire departments. The City of Logansport Fire Chief, Bernie Mittica and the Cass County Fire District & New Waverly Fire Department Chief Pat Bell, are organizing the campaign.
Volunteers will be installing smoke detectors by appointment on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Mittica and Bell invite anyone in the community to volunteer. A brief training will be provided by the American Red Cross at 9 a.m. Saturday at The Bridge Community Church, 301 E. Linden, Logansport.

If you would like to volunteer, you can RSVP through the “A Safer Logansport” Facebook page or by e-mailing asaferlogansport@gmail.com. Or, you can show up at the church on Saturday.

Mittica and Bell coordinated a campaign in late September in which 100 volunteers installed 379 smoke detectors in 170 homes in the area, but they say there’s still more work to be done. They have set a goal of reaching every house in Cass County.
