‘Citizen of the Week’ goes to Earnest

Last Updated on October 11, 2018 by cassnetwork

For 54 years, Carol Earnest was part of the administrative team at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

When she retired in 2017, she didn’t expect to be a patient in its new Cancer Care Center.

Last Saturday, her testimonial on cancer care was part of the annual River Bluff Run and Walk for breast cancer. Earnest spoke to a crowd of runners and walkers before walking the River Bluff Trail where she was informed she is this week’s Citizen of the Week.

“Carol has been a rock for Memorial for more than a half century, and when she needed a rock, Memorial was there for her,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today in announcing her honor. “Her face has been on a billboard promoting the walk, and she is the face of cancer survival we want to see many more times in the years ahead at Memorial thanks to her career and the careers of those around her who have supported the cancer center.”

Carol was joined at the walk by her husband of 17 years, Bill, and many hospital employees and breast cancer survivors.

“She is a living example that cancer can be beaten and her story is one that can be told many times in future years because of the support donors have shown to make the center possible,” Kitchell said.

The Citizen of the Week is presented by the Mayor’s Office. Recipients receive a certificate and a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant.
