At their meeting Tuesday, Oct. 24, the Utility Service Board approved a series of increases for LMU water and sewer customers over the next three years. The Logansport City Council must also approve the proposed increases.

Rate increases will be across the board, but the minimum monthly water charge is currently $15.83; that will rise by 7%, or $1.11 in June 2018, by 5%  (84 cents) in June 2019 and by 4% (71 cents) in 2020, for a total of $2.66 over the three year period.

A consultant for LMU said the water department has seen a loss of revenue because of the closure of the electric generating plant.

Expenses for chemicals for the sewage department have increased considerably due to a federal mandate to remove phosphorus.

The minimum sewage charge on a typical bill is currently $12.06. That will increase by 11% ( $1.33) in June 2018, by7% (94 cents) in  June 2019 and by 7% ($1) in 2020, for a total increase of $3.27 over the three year period.

LMU’s Stormwater Management Board will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday and will also consider an increase in stormwater rates, as they prepare for the upcoming combined sewer overflow (CSO) project.
