Six candidates are seeking the three seats on the Cass County Council that will be on the ballot this fall.

Republican candidates for county council who ran in the primary are Dean Davenport, Bruce Ide and Tracy Williamson.

Democrats announced candidate Emily Sawyer this week.

The Cass County Clerk’s Office says two Independent candidates, Malcom Dean Jarrell and J Bryon Stephens, filed on June 29.

By noon on July 15, the county voter registration office must certify the number of valid signatures of registered voters on the petition of nominations for the independent candidates.

The county council has the ultimate decision-making power regarding fiscal affairs for the county. The council has authority to view or review fiscal matters, determine proper policy, and set priorities for the allocation and expenditure of county funds.

The at-large candidates are voted on by all Cass County voters. Voters will be able to vote for up to 3 candidates.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.
