Gillea J. Layer

Gillea J. Layer, 92 of Royal Center passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at Cedar Creek Assisted Living in Logansport.

Born on August 19, 1934 in Delphi, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Esther (Martin) Nethercutt.

She was a 1952 Burnettsville High School graduate.

On October 25, 1952 she married Henry Everett Layer. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2014.

Gillea retired from the Royal Center Record after 32 years of service. She was a faithful charter member of Bell Center Bible Church. Gillea was a devout Christian and loved the Lord.

Survivors include her children, David Layer (Beth), Rita Liming (Rodney) of Royal Center, Cathy James (Scott), and Barbara Knepper (Tom). She was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Doyne Nethercutt and her sister, Lois Rogers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Bell Center Bible Church.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2026 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel in Royal Center and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Burial will follow at Bell Center Cemetery.
