Joan Elsie (Stoner) Barber, formerly of Panola, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026, in Logansport, Indiana. Joan was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Elsie Stoner.
Joan was born January 9, 1947, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She married Rick Barber in September 1965, and they had three sons. Rick and Joan resided in the Panora area for many years before moving to Indiana in October 2023. Joan worked in the banking industry, including time at Perry State Bank and Racoon Valley State Bank, for 42 years before retiring in September 2020. Joan took a lot of pride in her work and even returned to the bank after retiring because she missed it so much. She loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs. She would write down comments that she thought would prove correct later in life to remind us. She would never let any visitor to her home leave hungry. Joan supported her family in big and small ways and will be missed by many.
Joan is survived by her three sons, Tim (Jennifer) of Logansport, Indiana, Tom (Dana Chapman) of Jefferson, Iowa, and Tony (Shannon) of Panora, Iowa.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Breanna (Mike), Blaine (Emaleigh), Treyton, Kolton, Katelyn, Koralyn; great grandchildren, Berkley, Grace, Myla, Ezra and Callum, as well as beloved sisters, Donna (Gary) Comstock, Mary (Tom) Madsen, sister-in-law, Kay Stoner; brother-in-law, Lyle Archer; and several nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by Rick, her husband of 60 years, her parents, her brothers, Wayne Stoner and Jim Stoner, and sister-in-law, Mary Archer.
Rick and Joan’s final wishes were cremation with their ashes spread at their favorite family vacation spot in Lake Leach, Minnesota. Their wishes will be fulfilled in lieu of any services.
