John Michael Hastings

John Michael Hastings, 68, passed away on September 18, 2026, at his home.
John was born November 19, 1957, in Logansport, Indiana, to Clifford and Alma Hastings. He was a 1976 graduate of Logansport High School and later attended Ball State University.
John retired from Matthew Warren Spring in Logansport, where he also served as president of United Steelworkers Local 3261 from 2017 to 2020. He previously worked at Rockwell International.
A lifelong sports fan, John had a special devotion to the Chicago White Sox and made many trips to Comiskey Park with family and friends over the years. His love for the White Sox was rivaled only by his passion for Notre Dame football. That passion began after he attended the now-famous 1975 game that later inspired the story of Rudy. He was also a devoted fan of Indiana Hoosiers basketball.
John will be remembered for his willingness to help others and for the care and devotion he showed his family. In the years before his mother’s passing, he served as her caregiver, providing companionship and support when she needed it most.
John is survived by his sister, Teresa Geiselman; nieces and nephews, Stephen (Susan) Geiselman, Michael (Erin) Geiselman, Jennifer (Rob) Davis, Bryan (Melissa) Hastings, and Angela (Jesse) Zimmerman; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Christian Robinson, Jonah Geiselman, Elizabeth Geiselman, Mark Williams, Brayden Hastings, Meaghan Slone, and Charles Zimmerman.
In addition to his parents, Clifford and Alma Hastings, John was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hastings, and brother-in-law, William Geiselman.
In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no public funeral or memorial service. His family will honor and remember him privately, and those who knew him are encouraged to remember John in their own way and through the memories they shared with him.
