Logansport Community School Corporation receives statewide Excellence in Community Collaboration Award

LOGANSPORT, IN — Logansport Community School Corporation (LCSC) has been recognized as a recipient of the 2026 Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala’s Excellence in Community Collaboration Award, honoring the school corporation’s commitment to building strong partnerships that expand opportunities and support success for students.

The award was presented Friday, October 2, during the fifth annual Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala in Indianapolis. The black-tie event brought together more than 550 educators, school leaders, and community partners from across Indiana. More than $210,000 was awarded to schools and educators statewide in recognition of their impactful work on behalf of Indiana students.

LCSC received the $20,000 Excellence in Community Collaboration Award, which recognizes a school or school corporation that maximizes student support through intentional and strategic collaboration with local and/or state partners.

“This award is a tremendous honor for Logansport Community School Corporation and, more importantly, a reflection of the many community partners who believe in our students and work alongside us to help them succeed,” said Michele Starkey, Superintendent of Logansport Community School Corporation. “We know that schools cannot do this work alone. The partnerships we have developed with businesses, higher education institutions, community organizations, government agencies, and other local partners allow us to provide experiences and opportunities for our students that would not be possible through the school alone.”

The Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala celebrates educators, schools, and organizations whose innovative and collaborative work is strengthening educational opportunities throughout Indiana. Schools were recognized for excellence in areas including literacy and the science of reading, STEM, high school innovation, community collaboration, and educator professional development.

Indiana Governor Mike Braun highlighted the importance of the educators being recognized during the event.

“Across our state, educators are leading with bold, student-centered strategies that strengthen learning from the earliest grades through high school and beyond,” said Governor Mike Braun. “Our Hoosier teachers empower students, support families, and help shape the future of our state. This night celebrates their extraordinary dedication to supporting student success each and every day.”

Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner also emphasized the importance of celebrating schools and educators who are making a difference.

“It is so important that we take time to celebrate the incredible educators and schools whose dedication fuels Indiana’s growing momentum,” said Dr. Katie Jenner. “From advancing literacy and academic achievement to redesigning high school to better prepare students for what’s next, these successes are all possible because of the exceptional individuals committed to doing what’s best for students.”

For LCSC, the award represents the collective efforts of the school corporation and the Logansport community to create a comprehensive support system for students.

“Our community has consistently demonstrated that our students are our greatest investment,” Starkey said. “Whether the partnership involves career and technical education, work-based learning, higher education, student services, athletics, the arts, community organizations, or other opportunities, our partners continue to step forward and ask, ‘How can we help our students?’ That shared commitment is what makes Logansport special.”

The $20,000 award will further support LCSC’s efforts to provide meaningful opportunities and resources for students while strengthening partnerships throughout the community.

The recognition also reinforces LCSC’s broader commitment to ensuring that students graduate prepared for college, careers, and life beyond high school.

“We are proud of the work taking place throughout Logansport Community School Corporation, but we are even more proud of the people who make that work possible,” Starkey said. “This award belongs to our students, our staff, our families, our Board of School Trustees, and our community partners. It is a celebration of what can happen when an entire community works together on behalf of children.”
