Winning student to receive $1,000 award as part of McDonald’s “A Celebration of Culture & Community” initiative

LOGANSPORT, Ind. – In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, artwork created by a talented art student from Logansport High School was unveiled during a special ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the McDonald’s at 3201 E Market St. in Logansport. The event marks the culmination of “A Celebration of Culture & Community,” a McDonald’s-supported initiative honoring student creativity, culture and community pride.

This semester, art students from Logansport High School were invited to participate in the program in partnership with local McDonald’s Owner/Operators Dean, Chad and Nicole DiMichele. Students were challenged to create artwork that blends the nostalgia of McDonald’s with their unique interpretation of Logansport, showcasing their culture, experiences and personal connection to the community. The winning artwork will be displayed at a local McDonald’s.

The winning piece was created by Leyla Zarate. In recognition of Zarate’s artistic achievement, she will receive a $1,000 award. The Logansport High School art department will also receive a $500 grant to support future creative opportunities for students.

The winning artwork was transformed into a 5-foot-by-5-foot mural that will be displayed at the McDonald’s at 3201 E. Market St. in Logansport, giving customers and community members an opportunity to enjoy the student’s work.

“Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the culture, traditions and people who make Logansport such a vibrant community,” said Dean DiMichele. “We’re proud to give these talented students a platform to share what their culture and community mean to them, and even more excited that this artwork will have a home where our customers and neighbors can enjoy it.”
