Phillip J. Clingenpeel, 86, of Kokomo, formerly of Galveston, went to be with the Lord at 8:39 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, from Wellbrooke of Kokomo. He was born February 17, 1940, in Howard County to Frederick and Delcie (Bell) Clingenpeel. He was a 1958 graduate of Northwestern High School in Howard County. He later attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville. Phillip was a member of First Brethren Church in Burlington, Indiana for many years. He lived and worked in Los Angeles, California for the Pantasote Company. He returned to the family farm in Indiana after retirement. He enjoyed being back home to a slower pace of life. He loved watching all kinds of sports and participating when in his younger years. Phillip also enjoyed to travel and spent a few years working in Sydney Australia.
Surviving family include his sister, Janice Shrout of Louisville, KY; two nephews, David E. Shrout of Louisville, KY and Mark A. Shrout of Lufkin, TX. He is also survived by two great nephews, William H. Shrout and Andrew G. Shrout and one great niece, Gracie E. Shrout, all of Lufkin, TX and several cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Chaplin Adam Rinehart officiating. Visitation will take place one hour before service time from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Guardian Angel Hospice of Kokomo in Phillips memory.
