Richard had a lifelong love of farming and family. His farming career started at a very young age with his father and was a part of his life throughout. Nothing gave him greater joy than driving one of his favorite tractors. He began farming on his own immediately after High School. During those early years, he supplemented farm income with off the farm employment at General Tire in Logansport and a stint in the Army National Guard (Fort Jackson, South Carolina). In later years he stopped full-time farming and worked at Dye Lumber Company, Royal Center, IN.

Along with farming, Richard had a love of Belgian draft horses. He owned several horses over the years, hosted and attended draft horse plow days, and pulled wagons for local parades. He was a regular for years at the Winamac Power from the Past show where he gave wagon rides each day.

The family wants to thank the staff at the Logansport Cancer Care Center, Cedar Creek Assisted Living, and Heart to Heart Hospice for their exceptional care.
